In 2019, 165,191 visa applications to Denmark were received worldwide. Of these, 14,412 (8.7%) were rejected. The Danish Embassy in Abuja received 1,865 requests and 1,176 (62.9%) were rejected.
Applying for a Danish Schengen Visa from Nigeria
If you are a Nigerian citizen, you will need to apply for a visa to enter and stay in Denmark.
Visa applications must be submitted toGlobal VFSin Abuja and Lagos. Your application will be sent toDanish Embassy in Abuja.
The embassy processes visa applications within 15 days. It can be extended to 45 days if additional processing is required. You must apply well in advance. The application can be submitted up to 6 months before departure.
Please note that the embassy has a limited weekly limit of 50 applications, so it is recommended that you pre-book with VFS to obtain your visa prior to your travel date.

Step 4 - Pay your fees
Visa consular fees are paid by debit card in Naira at the counter of the application center in Lagos or Abuja. Due to exchange rates, the rate may change without prior notice. The VFS service fee is payable at the time of appointment. Visa and service fees are non-refundable.

Step 5 - Visit the Visa Application Center
The visa application must be submitted in person to VFS Global. For a successful visit, it is important to follow these guidelines on the day of the consultation:
- Try to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time
- Bring all supporting documentation (originals and copies)
- If you have not paid the visa fee online, you can pay the fees upon arrival at the centre.
- Submit your fingerprints and photo (biometrics)
- Minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and cannot be members of the VFS Global team
- If you miss an appointment on your scheduled date, you will need to make a new appointment 24 hours after your original appointment date
- Without biometric data, your application will not be considered

Step 6 - Track your application
To track the status of your claim, go to "Step 6 - Track your claim" and click on the link. Enter your reference number and name:
Step 7 - Collect your passport
Once the decision has been returned from the embassy to VFS Global, you will receive an email and you will be able to pick up your documents at the Visa Application Centre. You can also choose to return your passport by post. This service costs NW4,500 extra.
In the case of personal collection of documents, please bring a receipt issued by VFS Global and an ID card.
The decision reads:
Approved -in this case you will receive a passport with a visa sticker. It is your responsibility to verify that your visa information is correct. If not, inform VFS Global or the Danish Embassy immediately
Rejected -in this case, you will receive a letter of refusal together with your passport, explaining the reason for the refusal. The letter also contains information on how to appeal against the decision.
Reasons for order rejectionswitch on:
- You have previously overstayed your visa - if this has happened in the past, it may affect your chances of getting a visa in the future
- Passport issued more than 10 years ago - Your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years. If not, you need to get a new one before applying for a visa.
- False documents - do not try to present false documents because the embassy will find out and you will not get a visa
Needed documents
Document checklists can be found on the VFS Global website, so you should check them before applying. Documents for each type of visa are different. If you don't submit everything, your application may be rejected. You should also prepare photocopies in addition to providing original documents, so don't forget that!
